Daniela Macchione. I am an Italian musicologist (Ph.D. Rome 2004), currently serving as Managing
Editor of the series of critical editions “Works of Gioachino Rossini” (Bärenreiter Verlag, Kassel,
Germany) for which I co-edited the first volume “Chamber Vocal Music”(2007, together with
Martina Grempler) and “Chamber Vocal Music” (2018, together with the late Philip Gossett). In
2013 I edited Nicolò Paganini 24 Capricci op. 1 / 24 Contradanze inglesi (first edition) for the
publishing house Bärenreiter, for which I am also directing the just started “Sergei Rachmaninoff
Critical Edition”.
Since 2006 I am Research Consultant for the “Center for Italian Opera Studies” at the University of
Chicago, where I have directed the OperaCat project which aims to build a database collecting
description of autographs related to 19th-century Italian Opera put on sale at the antiquarian
market. I have illustrated the project in the essay Autographs, Memorabilia, and the Aesthetics of
Collecting included in “The Oxford Handbook of Opera” edited by Helen Greenwald (Oxford
University Press, 2014).
