Jorge Variego

Bass Clarinet, Composer
Jorge Variego was born in Rosario, Argentina. He received his PhD in music composition from the University of Florida, MM in composition and clarinet performance from Carnegie Mellon University (Fulbright Scholar). He is currently faculty in Music Theory/Composition at the University of Tennessee where he directs the UT Electroacoustic Ensemble. He has participated in many international music festivals such as MATA, SEAMUS, EMS, Holland Festival, Sonoimágenes, and has released two solo CDs: Necessity (Albany) and Regress (CMMAS). Jorge’s recent music for viola has been presented at the New York City Electroacoustic Festival, the College Music Society National Conference, and in a number of halls across the country.  In May 2018 he will present his book on Algorithmic composition at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, in Spain
