Paul Eggen graduated from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague after studying with Tibor Berkovits (former assistant to David Oistrakh), Jo Juda (pupil of Carl Flesch), Jean-Jacques Kantorow and Isidor Lateiner (former assistant to Ivan Galamian). In addition he participated in masterclasses by Max Rostal and Arrigo Pellicia, among others. During his years of string quartet concertizing he was coached by members of the Juilliard Quartet, the Lasalle Quartet, the Tacács Quartet, the Amadeus Quartet and the Kolish Quartet. Paul Eggen was a finalist in the FriulAdria Contest and was awarded first prize at the A.M.A. Calabria chamber music competition. In this competition he was also awarded first prize for the best performance of a contemporary work. He has performed at various international festivals and participated in CD-, film-, television- and radio productions/broadcasts (NDR Germany; RAI Italy). Alongside his career as a violist and violinist, Paul Eggen has worked extensively as a psychologist, after graduating from Leiden University. His expertise lies in: analysing dynamics in ensembles, teams and complex interactive situations; mediation for (for example) parents, neighbours; chamber music groups; investigating abuse in families; psychotherapy; psychological coaching; assessment of personality, capacities, motivation and intelligence; training of music teachers.
